The SkinMedica Peel System

Chemical peeling is an accelerated form of exfoliation created by acids that produces a controlled injury to the skin. Superficial chemical peels induce a faster sloughing of the cells in the epidermis, whereas deeper chemical peels create inflammation in the dermis. Following a peel, the body responds to the “wound” by initiating the wound healing process to re-orient the connective tissue of the new skin. Collagen remodeling is the primary reason chemical peels improve sun-damage and reduce wrinkles. The epidermis heals in a few days resulting in an improved clinical appearance of the skin, smoother texture and decreased pigmentary irregularities.

The Illuminize Peel is SkinMedica’s gentlest peel.
