Vein Removal
A large percentage of men and women develop visible and unsightly veins on their legs and face. These superficial veins are less than 3mm in diameter on the legs are often called spider veins or telangiectasia. Telangiectasias are abnormally dilated vessels very close to the surface of the skin.
We treat facial telangiectasia with the Sciton laser. Sometimes only a single treatment is required! For facial veins, laser therapy is the gold standard of treatment. The laser works because the light energy is absorbed and then heats the blood vessel. This heating causes the blood vessel to breakdown and shrink.
For dilated blood vessels on the legs a procedure called SCLEROTHERAPY is used. Sclerotherapy is a popular method of eliminating superficial telangiectasias in which a solution, called a sclerosing agent, is injected into the veins. The injection causes a sclerosis or the formation of fibrous tissue in the vessel subsequent to an inflammatory reaction. This process causes a gradual fading of the treated vessel over a period of several weeks to several months.
